International Customers

“Connecting No Matter What” is how GTL helps you maintain meaningful connections – no matter the distance between you and your incarcerated loved one. GTL provides access to nearly 200 international destinations for inmates at facilities where international calling and/or messaging* is allowed.

*Currently, only the Illinois and Pennsylvania Department of Corrections facilities offer messaging for international customers.


What it Costs

International calling rates vary by destination. Rates may also vary by type of phone line you use (e.g., landline or cellular). GTL’s tariffs are published here. Calls to numbers preceded with an area code, like Canada and the Caribbean, have their own specific rates.
International messaging rates vary by facility and will be communicated by your GTL representative during the setup process.

Get Started

International Phone Calls

  1. Contact Us. Friends and family members must first contact our GTL International Customer Service Department at AdvancePayInternational@GTL.net to request an account to be set up for international communication. A GTL representative will respond with instructions. You will be requested to provide the facility name, monetary amount you wish to add to the AdvancePay® account for pre-paid phone calls and your international phone number.
  2. Payment Instructions. Once your details are confirmed, you will be provided payment instructions using either Western Union or a bank-to-bank wire transfer only. Your GTL representative will provide those details and then confirm the funds have been loaded to your account.
  3. Start Communicating. After your AdvancePay® pre-paid phone account is established, communication can begin. Your incarcerated loved one must first dial 011 before your phone number in order to call out. Domestic calls include the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Marietta Islands.

International Messaging

  1. Contact Us. Friends and family members must first contact our GTL International Customer Service Department at AdvancePayInternational@GTL.net to request an account to be set up for international communication. A GTL representative will respond with instructions. You will be requested to provide the facility name, monetary amount you wish to add to the AdvancePay® account for pre-paid messages, and your international phone number.
  2. Establish an Online Account. For international messaging only, you will be prompted by your GTL customer service representative to create a Friends and Family email account on ConnectNetwork.
  3. Payment Instructions. Once your details and account are confirmed, you will be provided payment instructions using either Western Union or a bank-to-bank wire transfer only. Your GTL representative will provide those details and then confirm the funds have been loaded to your account.
  4. Start Communicating. Messaging can only be accessed on our website. Please login to ConnectNetwork.com to view and respond to your messages.
